Radio Jamana Koulikoro is the latest station to get a digital studio editing system.

In late March, Geekcorps volunteer Josh Borts installed a computer (Linux operating system), microphone, and speakers at Jamana’s Koulikoro office. Once the system was set up, he led a day and a half of training for radio staff, covering topics such as word processing, but focusing mainly on Audacity (the audio-editing program).

the course of the training, the Jamana staff made their own digital radio programs. They recorded their own voices, added music, and edited the audio using Audacity.

Geekcorps Mali est confronté à un serieux problème : Nous installons quotidiennement des ordinateurs dans de nombreuses radio communautaires au Mali (Afrique de l’Ouest). Or une vaste partie du territoire Malien se trouve dans le désert du Sahara comme la célèbre ville de Tombouctou, et, comme vous pouvez l’imaginer, les ordinateurs que nous installons chauffent très très rapidement. Nous lançons un concours pour nous aider à trouver une solution à ce problème.
